Our mission at CogniTutor is to help students learn in a smarter way. This means students become educationally independent and don’t need a tutor’s help in the future! Instead of merely providing material to students, we help them learn to think critically, comprehend what they are reading, learn memory strategies, strengthen their test taking skills, and improve their weaknesses.
Loni Lebanoff, CEO and Founder, was independently tutoring when schools and government organizations took notice because her students were improving so much. Her methods of teaching students how to learn on their own were helping the students improve more significantly and at a faster rate than those of tutoring companies. Her students were getting into college when they never thought it was possible. Loni considers one of her greatest accomplishments to be when she worked with one of her students to overcome his brain injury and receive an A in his college class! Loni wanted to help more students in need. Thus, CogniTutor was born!

99% of CogniTutor’s students are considered to be at-risk, this means they might be experiencing homelessness, foster care, or learning disabilities. We partner with nonprofits, scholarships, and governmental organizations to provide funded tutoring to them that changes their lives. CogniTutor has worked with 3 year olds to 70 year olds on piano, learning how to code, algebra 2, ACT, and everything between! Students at all levels have benefitted from our effective and unique techniques.

Meet Our Founder
Loni Lebanoff founded CogniTutor with a simple mission: help millions of students Learn to Learn. She is an international teacher who, to name a few, has worked with doctors in Vietnam, taught English to Italian children, and conducted piano lessons in Canada. Loni conducts and studies the latest research on memory, learning, and cognition. She demonstrates her belief in life-long learning through her dance, art, musical instruments, and other varied pursuits. Through her research, learning, and travels, Loni continually improves her and CogniTutor’s effective and original methods of teaching. Some of these methods are the same methods that she used throughout her schooling and that helped her receive a perfect score on the ACT. “CogniTutor instructors are enthusiastic and care about their students.
